Pirate Fairy Party

We love the Tinkerbell movies in our house.  It is actually a bit of a guilty pleasure.  Seriously, they are pretty great. So when the Pirate Fairy movie came out a while ago we had to order it. With my oldest daughter’s birthday quickly approaching, the wheels started turning and a Pirate Fairy themed party set sail.

At the party, we had our own pixie dust tree, larger than life poppy flowers, a playground turned pirate ship, fairy cupcakes sprinkled with blue pixie dust, and a pirate table-scape.

I used an old king size sheet, cut it in half hot dog style (so I had two long strips), and tied them up side by side on our swing set with gathered ends to make it look like a ship sail that had been drawn up.  I borrowed these adorable signs from a friend.

I used my silhouette to cutout some tinkerbell shaped cupcake toppers.  The white frosting is topped with blue homemade edible glitter {Tutorial Here}.

I created the pixie dust tree with two 25 yard rolls of ivory sparkling tulle (found for $3.25 each at papermart.com). The tulle is just draped over a low branch.

For the table-scape, I made a burlap wreath using this tutorial and embellished with “piratey” stuff I had around the house.  The “coins” are from a failed hand stamping project. Warning: buy in bulk with caution. I would not go buy those just for this party (they are pretty pricey at $.50 each) but I am temporarily using them for this party to look like pirate treasure.  They are tied together on twine to make it look like rope on a ship.  The red and white striped fabric is left over from a halloween costume.  Plus the ribbon I just had on hand.

Then these bad boys were my favorite part of the decorations! They were cheap ($3.75 each!) and added a big pop of color.  Here is the tutorial. I really wanted the guests to feel like fairies in Pixie Hollow and this nailed it!

Here is a picture of the birthday girl to give a sense of scale. Even though I feel like a rookie party thrower, it was a great success with the help of my hubby and parents that just happened to be in town.  Phew!
